Change isn’t always good; sometimes, it just brings complications. And when it comes to the Internet and PCs, no one wants such complications. Microsoft didn’t think that through with the Windows 11 new features. While some of those are accepted by the users, others, like the complicated default browser process, aren’t.

Want us to expand on this issue? Keep reading!

The Process of Default Browsers

Being able to change default apps, like your browser, used to be an easy task. In fact, most browsers used to ask you if you wanted to set them as a default browser in a pop-up banner that would display across your screen. It was as easy as clicking “yes” or “no.”

However, now there’s a new way to change your default browser — and it’s a bit more tricky.

The latest update appears to be modeled after Apple’s iOS 14 method, which requires you to choose an app from the default programs settings menu rather than from the default browser.

Instead of picking the task’s default, those settings offer a variety of new options.

They’re More Than Just Windows’ Glitches

Glitches happen, we know that; however, these issues are more than just glitches. Some areas of the OS entirely disregard your default browser setting. If you run a Windows Search and click on a result, the page will not open in your default browser. Instead, no matter what, it opens in Microsoft Edge.

The new Widgets panel has the same issue: all links always open in Edge. Both of these problems aren’t new to Windows 11, but they’re still frustrating.

What Does Microsoft Say?

The modifications, according to Microsoft, are meant to provide users with more control over which browsers do what. Actually, you can open *.htm files in a different browser than *.html ones.

The reason behind it is unclear, but the option is there. You may also alter which software opens PDF files, as well as a lot of other things. All of this was already available but hidden behind an advanced menu.
